RS-232 Interface Lead is a Spitting Image sketch, poking fun at Compilation albums such as "Now That's What I Call Music" and "The Best (insert genre here) Album in the world....Ever!".
In this case, the compilation album being sold includes songs about the RS-232 Interface Lead-- a cable meant for connecting peripherals to computers, originally invented in the 1960s, and heavily in use by the 80s.
The joke goes as far as to suggest that there's a new compilation album about places in which the RS-232 album can't be bought, and that both albums are unavailable.
An interesting coincidence: development on USB, the standard that would come to replace RS-232, began on January 1996, the same month in which Series 18 of Spitting Image, the final series of the original run, began to air.
Musicians such as Status Quo , Barbra Streisand, David Bowie and Dolly Parton were lampooned on this sketch. On the final part of the sketch, George Formby is also parodied.
